About the Role Join EcoOnline where you’ll be building the APIs that power our flagship product, a platform helping companies protect people and the environment at scale. You’ll work with PHP (Laravel) in a modern, cloud-first environment, designing scalable SaaS architecture, high-quality APIs, and driving exciting modernisation initiatives. Our international team (Norway, Ireland, Sweden, UK) is collaborative, curious, and committed to technical excellence while supporting each other across borders. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain backend services using PHP (Laravel). Build and optimise APIs, ensuring they are secure, performant, and well-documented. Collaborate with Product, QA, UX, and other engineers in agile pods to deliver features. Apply best practices in software engineering (Git/GitHub, automated testing, peer reviews). Support CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments (AWS). Contribute to system scalability, performance, and security by proactively addressing challenges. Take part in technical design discussions and influence architectural decisions. Experiment with new approaches, including responsible use of AI, to improve efficiency and product quality. What we’re looking for: You will have at least 5+ years’ experience in PHP development (Laravel, OOP practices). You will have a strong understanding of API design and documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI). You will come with database experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL (schema design, query optimization). You will have hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, including configuring, deploying, and maintaining Kafka in production environments. You will have hands-on with AWS deployments and containerisation (Docker). You are skilled in CI/CD pipelines, Git/GitHub workflows, and automated testing. Nice to have: Background in SaaS or large-scale customer-facing platforms. Familiarity with frontend frameworks (Vue.js, React, Angular). AWS certifications or cloud-related credentials. Experience mentoring junior developers or leading knowledge-sharing initiatives. Interest in exploring AI for software development.
