As a Senior Digital Editor, Travel, you'll be at the forefront of this change, shaping the way we tell stories about the world and its incredible destinations. Job Summary As our ideal candidate, you'll be a seasoned digital publishing professional with a passion for travel and a keen eye for compelling storytelling. You'll be responsible for driving National Geographic's digital content strategy in the travel space, creating and curating content that resonates with our audience across multiple platforms. Your expertise will help us stay ahead of the competition, and your creativity will inspire our readers to explore the world. Key Responsibilities Content Creation and Strategy : Pitch and suggest framing for pitches at regularly scheduled pitch meetings, identifying stories that align with our KPIs and experimenting with new topic areas within Travel. Freelance Network Management : Build and maintain a network of freelance writers with experience in the Travel space, ensuring we have access to the best talent and perspectives. Collaboration and Leadership : Participate in regular digital editorial pitch meetings, leading the conversation and executing on decisions made. Collaborate with the Digital Engagement Team, Editorial Newsletter team, and Social team to advance editorial Search strategy, drive unique visitors and engagement, and develop digital content ideas. Editorial Excellence : Coach junior editors on the digital team as necessary, sharing your expertise and experience to help them grow and develop. Data-Driven Decision Making : Use data-driving tools to inform content decisions, and work with the Senior Manager of Digital Editorial to receive feedback on performance and identify new topic areas or formats to experiment with. Essential Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: A minimum of 5 years of editorial experience in digital publishing, with a strong background in editing and a broad knowledge of search engine optimization. Topical expertise and experience editing travel content across text and video platforms, with a proven track record of creating engaging and optimized content. Future-forward digital editing skills, including experience with data-driving tools and the ability to evolve story ideas out of brainstorms. A highly developed ability to recognize and create story ideas, including ideas with major visual and multimedia components. A Bachelor's Degree, preferably with a concentration in journalism and digital media. Preferred Experience While not essential, the following experience will give you a competitive edge: Experience with travel writing and editing, with a deep understanding of the travel industry and its trends. Previous experience creating content for social media, with a keen sense of the competitive media landscape and tried tactics. Understanding of priorities and demands of a large umbrella company, with proven patience working effectively within an ever-changing environment.
