We're now seeking a skilled and passionate Forest Management Technician to join our team in Astoria as a permanent, full-time Recreation Technician. About the Role: Forest Management Technician - Recreation Technician As a Forest Management Technician, you will play a crucial role in the State Forest Recreation Operations Program, managing recreation facilities and non-motorized trails across all state forest land. This position offers a unique opportunity to work outdoors, engage with the public, and contribute to the conservation and maintenance of Oregon's natural beauty. Key Responsibilities: Perform maintenance and janitorial work at recreation facilities, including campgrounds, day-use areas, picnic areas, and trailheads. Support facility and trail projects, ensuring the upkeep and improvement of recreation infrastructure. Collect and process campground fees, handling financial transactions accurately and efficiently. Provide exceptional customer service to forest visitors, addressing inquiries, and resolving issues in a professional manner. Patrol campgrounds, dispersed use areas, trailheads, day-use areas, and trails to ensure visitor safety and compliance with regulations. Support the work of volunteers, partners, and service providers, fostering collaborative relationships and promoting program objectives. Assist with a wide range of program activities, including planning, coordination, and implementation of recreation programs and events. Maintain accurate records and reports, utilizing computer skills to effectively work with various programs such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Essential Qualifications and Skills To be considered for this role, you must meet the minimum qualifications and possess the requested skills: Minimum Qualifications: Eighteen months of experience working in Parks and Recreation Administration, Outdoor Recreation Management, Recreation Planning, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or Forestry Education and Interpretation. Associate Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Outdoor Recreation Management, Recreation Planning, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Studies, Forestry, or a related natural resource field of study. An equivalent combination of education and experience. Requested Skills: Experience maintaining and cleaning recreation facilities. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively. Good computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and GIS. Physical ability to walk on rough terrain, stoop or bend around structures or equipment, and climb ladders or equipment. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
