With a rich history of enabling creativity and innovation, Autodesk is now at the forefront of driving climate change mitigation and sustainability through its strategic investments in early-stage climate tech startups. We're seeking an experienced Investment Principal to join our Impact Team as a key player in shaping the future of our climate innovation and investment initiatives. About the Role As an Investment Principal, Climate, you will be an integral part of Autodesk's Impact Team, working closely with Corporate Development, Finance, and product and strategy teams to identify, evaluate, and invest in promising climate tech and sustainability startups. You will support and eventually lead all aspects of the investment process, from deal sourcing and due diligence to portfolio management and governance. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in corporate venture capital, startup ecosystems, and climate technology to drive meaningful impact and shape the future of Autodesk's industries. Key Responsibilities Establish and institutionalize best-in-class corporate VC operations, ensuring alignment with Autodesk's strategic objectives and climate innovation goals. Source and screen potential investment opportunities, conducting detailed technological, financial, and market due diligence to identify high-potential climate tech startups. Refine investment operations through deepening co-investor networks with like-minded venture funds, accelerators, and corporates, and conducting sector and industry analyses to identify emerging trends and opportunities. Serve as a board observer and support governance and reporting across the portfolio, ensuring effective portfolio management and value creation. Partner with business units across Autodesk to identify strategic opportunities for corporate engagements with the existing ventures portfolio, driving business growth and innovation. Develop and implement an optimal post-investment process to maximize value to the portfolio and Autodesk, leveraging insights from industry trends and portfolio company performance. Analyze and distill industry insights from the portfolio for key internal and external audiences, including Autodesk executives and the Board of Directors. Hire and nurture a high-performing team of investors, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within the Impact Team. Minimum Qualifications To succeed in this role, you should possess: A relentless focus on driving outsized impact on climate change and social equity through market-based solutions and private sector engagement. 7+ years of experience in a related field, such as VC/PE, startup, management consulting, investment banking, or corporate development, with a deep understanding of Autodesk's industries (construction and manufacturing) through a digital technology and innovation lens. Climate technology experience within construction, manufacturing, and/or real estate ecosystems, with a proven track record of identifying and investing in high-potential startups. A strong entrepreneurial background and spirit, with experience building new efforts within larger organizations and driving innovation through collaboration and strategic partnerships. Deep analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with experience in corporate VC investment operations and management, including market, financial, and business model analysis. Proven written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to distill complex solutions and market opportunities into actionable insights that drive results. Preferred Qualifications Ideally, you will also possess: A strong network of contacts within the climate tech and sustainability startup ecosystems, including venture funds, accelerators, and corporates. Experience in portfolio management and governance, with a proven track record of driving value creation through effective portfolio company engagement. A deep understanding of Autodesk's products and industries, with the ability to identify strategic opportunities for corporate engagements with the existing ventures portfolio. Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you should possess: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and distill insights into actionable recommendations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders across Autodesk and the startup ecosystem. A collaborative and entrepreneurial mindset, with a willingness to take calculated risks and drive innovation through experimentation and learning. A strong commitment to Autodesk's values and culture, with a passion for driving positive impact on climate change and social equity. Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits As an Investment Principal, Climate, you will have the opportunity to: Develop your skills and expertise in corporate venture capital, climate technology, and sustainability, with access to training and development programs.
