The Hardware Operations group is responsible for maintaining the physical infrastructure that powers Google's search technology. As a Data Center Technician at Google, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers and network operations. About the Role As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and server software. You will work with Linux-based tools to troubleshoot hardware and community-associated troubles. Your experience in hardware, networking equipment, operating systems, and data center operations will be essential in this role. Key Responsibilities: Contribute to and lead efforts/tasks in the deployment, maintenance, and support of modern and new data center infrastructure. Participate in or lead troubleshooting and solve essential or escalated technical troubles. Test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs. Configure and troubleshoot Linux OS-associated troubles on servers. Deploy and maintain Google's advanced data center server and network infrastructure. Install, configure, test, troubleshoot, and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). Configure additional complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. Participate in or lead small project teams on large installations and develop project contingency plans. Requirements and Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Experience troubleshooting hardware or community-associated troubles using Linux-based tools. Experience in hardware, networking equipment, operating systems, and data center operations. High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in a related field preferred. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a data center or network operation center environment. Experience with light coding or scripting. Experience with networking protocols.
