Join Nationwide's Property and Casualty Team as a Director, Claims - E&S/Specialty Nationwide is seeking an experienced and skilled Director, Claims - E&S/Specialty to lead our Commercial, E&S, and Specialty (CLESS) Property Claims team. As a Director, you will be responsible for overseeing large, complex losses and litigation for Commercial and Personal Lines Contract and Wholesale E&S, P&C Programs, Alternative Ventures, and Litigation. Key Responsibilities Direct the operation of the department, including planning, annual budget preparation, and monitoring, projecting human resource and customer needs, hiring, motivating, promoting, developing, and performance management of staff. Provide claims handling expertise to new product development and account creation and lead, in partnership with Underwriting, new product development and management. Build and maintain relationships with agents, brokers, and underwriters. Develop and implement plans to solve business problems related to the customer's business and the service/products provided by management liability. Provide technical consultation/direction to all claim professionals and function as a content specialist to help develop training curricula. Evaluate claims in a timely manner to identify and manage reserves according to company standards and best reserving practices. Review and analyze files to ensure adherence to division guidelines and best claims handling practices. Review claim quality results to identify coverage trends and ensure consistency in policy interpretation. Manage the claims processes consistently within a technical specialty and coordinate efforts with other specialty claims functions. Provide direction and mentorship on all aspects of litigation management and connect with reinsurance auditors to research and answer questions on specific claims. Essential and Preferred Qualifications To succeed in this role, you'll need: Ten years of claims experience, including five years in claims management. Multi-line experience with exposure to the general agency system. Knowledge of the general agency system, state insurance department regulation, unfair claim handling regulations, and a good understanding of tort law. Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills necessary for customer contact, negotiation, presentations, project management, personnel management, technical, and non-technical contacts. Leadership and management skills, with the ability to develop, coach, train, and mentor individual team members. Undergraduate degree preferred, with completion of general insurance courses, such as IIA, AEI, and/or CPCU preferred.
