Digital Communications Intern - Remote Opportunity to Drive National Park Service Engagement through Innovative Content Creation and Social Media Strategies

Join the National Park Service's Mission to Inspire a New Generation The Student Conservation Association is seeking a highly motivated and creative Digital Communications Intern to join their team on a remote basis. As a key member of the Youth and Young Adult Programs Division, you will have the opportunity to develop a new strategic vision for promoting national park programs and engaging new audiences. About the National Park Service and the Student Conservation Association The National Park Service is a federal agency responsible for managing and preserving national parks, monuments, and historic sites across the United States. The Student Conservation Association is a non-profit organization that works closely with the National Park Service to provide opportunities for young people to get involved in conservation and environmental stewardship. As a Digital Communications Intern, you will be working with the Outreach and Digital Communications Specialist to develop innovative content and social media strategies that promote youth and young adult programs across the National Park Service. Primary Responsibilities As a Digital Communications Intern, you will be responsible for: Developing, writing, and curating content for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and X) on a daily basis, creating social media campaigns, and reporting on social media statistics monthly (60% of workload) Interviewing youth, young adults, and employees about their connection to and/or experience with the National Park Service and writing spotlight articles about them that will be published on nps.gov and featured on social media, and on other mediums where applicable (20% of workload) Editing and updating webpages on nps.gov, writing and posting to InsideNPS (intranet), and internal SharePoint sites (15% of workload) Participating regularly in National Park Service digital communities, such as the service-wide digital calls and the digital recognition working group, and working on special projects as assigned (5% of workload) Marginal Duties In addition to the primary responsibilities, you may also be required to: Create graphics and edit videos, depending on your level of experience Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must have: Experience working with youth and diverse audiences Excellent customer service and communication skills Strong writing skills Experience with creating and posting content on social media platforms for an organization or school group, and tracking analytics Ability to work independently with some supervision A resume and cover letter Additional Qualifications You must also meet the following requirements: Be between the ages of 18 and 30 inclusive, or up to 35 years of age if a military veteran Be a U. S. citizen, U. S. permanent resident, or U. S. National Be able to pass a federal background check Preferred Qualifications While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Experience in graphic design and video editing Experience with interviewing Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, business, education, environmental science, or related fields What to Expect This is a full-time remote internship that will run from December 2, 2024, to November 28, 2025, with a commitment of 30 hours per week. You will be working closely with the Outreach and Digital Communications Specialist to develop a new strategic vision for promoting national park programs and engaging new audiences. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in digital communications, social media management, and content creation, and to make a real impact on the National Park Service's mission. Compensation and Benefits You will receive a weekly stipend of $525, as well as additional benefits, including: An AmeriCorps Education award upon successful completion Eligibility for the Public Lands Corps hiring authority Reimbursement for approved travel and training All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
