Job Summary The Coordinator of Academic Development - Football will work closely with the Head Football Coach, Assistant AD for Football Operations, and the Student-Athlete Resource Center (SARC) team to provide comprehensive academic support services to student-athletes. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating academic development programs, services, and resources to ensure student-athletes achieve their academic goals, maintain eligibility, and make progress toward graduation. Key Responsibilities Coordinate with SARC to provide study hall hours for assigned student-athletes and ensure fulfillment of study hall requirements, in accordance with campus protocols. Assist student-athletes on academic probation, IEP, or engaged in academic support, connecting them with services provided by the SARC team to meet their learning needs throughout the academic year. Collaborate with SARC to ensure effective communication regarding academic progress, eligibility, and APR tracking, providing updates to coaches daily. Coordinate student success programming, specifically related to initial arrival to campus, and prepare reports and analyze data for coaches in collaboration with the Assistant Athletic Director for Football. Assist in the student-athlete recruitment process, utilizing high-level customer service, presentation, and marketing skills to promote SJSU and create a team-oriented environment for students and their families. Review reports from faculty, mentors, and tutors regarding student-athletes' academic progress, class attendance, and grade/academic concerns or at-risk alerts. Collaborate with SARC to arrange academic support, mentoring, and tutoring, focused on student-athlete progress toward degree. Ensure all student-athletes obtain necessary books and supplies, assessing specific class or individual needs or deficiencies prior to each semester. Partner with SARC to create curriculum for summer/winter entrance to San Jose State, helping student-athletes adjust to life as college athletes. Participate in prospective student-athletes' campus visits, developing compelling documentation of programming provided for student success. Requirements and Qualifications Essential Qualifications Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution. Demonstrated ability to create student development and study skill programming. Knowledge of NCAA legislation, rules, and regulations, especially as they apply to academic support. General knowledge of university methods, procedures, and practices; English grammar, business writing, punctuation, and spelling. Ability to work collaboratively as a team member. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree and/or teaching credential. Two years of experience specifically in the academic support of two or four-year college students. Skills and Competencies Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Ability to analyze data accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Strong organizational and time management skills, with ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques. Demonstrated ability to create programs responsive to a diverse and multicultural environment.
