Contract Data Engineer - Market Data & Trading Systems

Contract Data Engineer — Market Data & Order Books (Remote). Type: Contract / Remote. Duration: Initial 30–60 days (extension possible). Time: Part-time or full-time. Location: Remote (LATAM / Eastern Europe preferred). About the Role. We are building research and trading systems in prediction markets and derivatives. This role focuses on market data plumbing, not strategy or alpha research. You will design and maintain reliable, replayable data pipelines for order books and trades across multiple venues. This is a contract role with clearly defined scope and clean handoff expectations. Responsibilities. • Market Data Ingestion. • Ingest REST and WebSocket feeds. • Capture trades, order book snapshots, and deltas. • Handle reconnects, dropped messages, and duplicates. • Data Normalization & Storage. • Normalize data across venues. • Align timestamps and sequence events correctly. • Store immutable raw data plus processed views. • Implement schema and version control. • Replay & Research Support. • Reconstruct order books from deltas. • Enable deterministic historical replay. • Support ad-hoc research queries. • Data Quality. • Detect and surface anomalies (stale books, invalid spreads, bad timestamps). • Log issues explicitly — no silent fixes. Required Experience. • Strong data engineering fundamentals. • Experience with streaming data ingestion, time-series data, and ETL pipelines. • Solid Python skills. Required Market Context. • Comfortable with limit order books, trades vs quotes, snapshots vs deltas, bid/ask mechanics. • Understanding why timestamp accuracy matters in trading data. • Trading strategy design not required. Nice to Have. • Prior work with trading, options, crypto, or financial market data. • Experience with WebSockets at scale. • Familiarity with Parquet, Postgres, or time-series storage. Contract Details. • Initial contract: 30–60 days. • Clear deliverables and documentation required. • Possibility to extend contract, reduce scope to maintenance, or convert to junior full-time later (optional). Compensation. • Competitive hourly or monthly contract rate. • Paid for correctness, reliability, and domain literacy. • Alpha or speculative modeling is not compensated.
